Origins of Socks
The use of the stockings is very dated in time. Even, there are traces of knitted socks made already in the ancient Egyptian civilization. And the Romans used to cover their legs with simple strips of woolen and linen. In ancient Greece, they used the boots, which were mostly the function of protecting the foot.
The first example of tights thin and adherent we find in the medieval period. And they were men to wear it, at least until 1700, when it was supplanted by the trousers.
Between 1,300 and 1,400 spread the habit – by women – to use the stockings under her clothes, and was built in 1589 in England the appropriate machinery (which took the name of the frame) to produce the socks in quantity industrial.
When this tool is widespread in America, socks soon became an accessory that women of all walks of life did not miss. And so they created a real business.
Were born after 1600-always in England – some groups of artisans who produce socks. It was real corporations. He counted about 600. In 1938 came the great discovery of nylon fiber, by Wallace Carothers. The production of nylon is interrupted during a severe economic crisis in 1940.
And women, by now accustomed to wear stockings, they resorted to expedients, such as to replace the effect of the seam stockings drawing a line behind the leg. After this dark period, due to the consequences of the war, the women returned to wear the beloved socks.
In the 50s began to be manufactured without seam stockings, both veiled and colored, but were still long skirted below the knee. In the 60s, there was another revolution : the great American company Du Pont Lycra launched on the market. This material is widespread, especially after 1965, when the miniskirt was a turning point for all women!
In the 70s, they spread the lace tights, stockings in the 80s became more refined and elegant. In the 90s, the models instead of the socks were characterized by comfort and practicality. But at the same time they become accessories with a strong seductive power, and this also contributes to television advertising and cinema.
Models of Socks
There are types of shoes suitable for every occasion, every occasion and every type of clothing. If we opt for casual clothes and sports will choose a type of short socks, preferably cotton, colored, that leaves us free to move. Then there are also longer socks, half leg, in various materials, including synthetic or sponge, suitable for winter and mid-season.
As for the tights, in general, are worn by women for all seasons of the year. Obviously, they are heavier in winter (eg 50 or 60 denier), lighter and veiled during the spring and summer months. The sock – of course – must always be adapted to the type of shoe you wear.
So if you wear stylish shoes decollete is not intended to match the knee shorts. Although the current fashion seems to re-evaluate this particular type of sock that can be worn with charm even with high heels!

The stockings are improving in recent years more and more, meeting the needs of various kinds of women, those always elegant and clean, a more practical and sports enthusiast. For example, some manufacturers of pantyhose have launched those without seam at the waist or on your toes, so that they can be worn with open shoes such as sandals or clogs.
